Add to My Profile | More Videos Timothy Hollins is a most-promising author of many genres, but his love for science-fictional and mystery writing is displayed in his debut novel, "Sacred Ground."
Born in the small Mississippi Delta town of Leland, Hollins grew up in an indigent neighborhood where drugs and crime were a part of everyday life. But at a very early age, he was introduced to literature in the forms of poetry and novels by prominent black poets and authors. Enthralled by the writings of such greats like Mrs. Butler and Alex Haley, Hollins decided to focus his time and energy on crafting short stories and poetry from his vantage of the world.
Poems poured effortless from the adolescent. He would write poems for his mother each holiday to compensate for the lack of money needed to buy her gifts and cards. The warm and loving response he received from her was welcomed like his favorite confection, and it drove him to write more poetry for other family members and his friends.
Along came the birth of hip-hop and the intense wave it carried into the late 80’s. Hollins was hooked. He traded in his poetry notepad for a rhyme book and began honing his skills as a lyrical M.C. He joined the United States Army after graduating high school and was stationed at Ft. Sill in Oklahoma. He did a two year tour in the Army and shortly after his honorable discharge he attended Cameron University in Lawton, Ok, where he majored in CIS. As a hip-hop artist, Hollins performed in several shows on campus and around the city, but was soon discouraged by the life that surrounded “upcoming rap artist” so he turned his focus away from any form of creative writing for several years.
Later, moving to Atlanta, GA after the 9/11 tragedy, the "creative itch" resurfaced, only this time it would be here to stay. Shortly after moving to the beautiful city, he was introduced to “spoken word”, a gift he seen as nothing short of “the firmament of serenity” from his culture. He began writing cultural, political, cognitive, and affectionate spoken word pieces, which led him back to his original love, poetry. Now, Mr. Hollins introduces you to his debut science-fiction novel entitled “Sacred Ground”.
Timothy Hollins continues to write spoken word pieces, poems, novels, and other forms of literary art. He still resides in Atlanta and has a beautiful teenage daughter, Arielle, whom the fictional town “Arielleville” in the much-anticipated novel “Sacred Ground” is named after.
